Resources to Help You
The Courts are one of our most vital and important public institutions. We all have the right to go to court and represent ourselves, but when we do, we quickly find out how complex the legal system is. The level of complexity in law is daunting, even for new lawyers after years of law school. We do not all have the time for that. These pages are intended to be informational. My goal is to help you cut through some of the beginning levels of complexity in the legal system.
Much as we would not let someone perform surgery without medical training, there is some point at which the help of a lawyer really is necessary. However, just as there are over-the counter medications, there are legal forms and other resources online that can help you get somewhere on your own. When you face a legal problem, there can also be personal and emotional costs that must be faced. Additionally, you may need a considerable amount of non-legal help to solve some legal issues. For example, in completing a court required parenting plan, you might want to consult information about age appropriate parenting solutions for your child. The resources I am assembling here are materials that I think might be useful to people going through family separation, child custody decisions, and other kinds of situation in which I offer my services as a mediator. On this page I gather together resources that other people have put on the web. There is nothing especially new, but I try to guide you to resources that I think are well done. I will include legal and non-law related resources. This is a work in progress, and it is certainly not comprehensive. |
